Michael Jackson, “The King of Pop” passes at 50

Posted in Entertainment on June 26th, 2009

Yesterday was a sad day for many Michael Jackson fans.  According to CNN.com, “He collapsed at his residence in the Holmby Hills section of Los Angeles, California, about noon Pacific time, suffering cardiac arrest, according to brother Randy Jackson. He died at UCLA Medical Center.”

“The King of Pop”  was born August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana.  He was only 10 years old when the Jackson 5 was signed to Motown Records.  In 1972, he embarked on his solo career and his popularity boomed through the next 20 years.  He has won countless Grammy Awards, and has impacted the world through his music, dancing, fashion and eccentricity.  He is a legend and we will miss him!  Rest in peace, Michael Jackson.

Paying Homage to one of the realest…esfac’e personified

Posted in Community, Entertainment on June 17th, 2009

Fact:  13 years ago, we lost one of the greatest emcees and leaders in the history of hip hop and one of the most influential artists in the history of entertainment.  Tupac Shakur aka 2 Pac, was a true people’s champ who took a revolutionary stance on many social issues pertaining to the minority, urban communities since his teenage years.  His unparalleled anthology of music proved he was always a man of substance and represented the part of hip hop that I think is truly missing in today’s mainstream music scene. Take 30 minutes out of your day to pay respect and listen to some of his powerful work: youtube, imeem, pandora…life has options.
